An express train from Jamalpur derailed just before entering Dhirashram station in the morning

Dhaka-bound Jamalpur Commuter train was rescued three hours after it derailed in Gazipur on Thursday

Three wheels of the train’s engine slipped off the tracks just before entering Dhirashram railway station around 11:45am, cutting off communication with the country’s northern region.

No casualties were reported in the incident.

“Train services between Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Rajshahi-Khulna were disrupted,” Helal Uddin, the station master, said.

Three other trains -- Chapai Express, Agniveena Express and Ekota Express -- remained stranded at different stations on both sides of the station.

A rescue train removed the engine from the tracks around 3:50pm, Sub-Inspector Shahidullah, in-charge of Joydebpur railway junction police camp, said.
