Greater Christchurch could support Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, new report finds

NZ Herald

A mass rapid transit (MRT) system was not pursued in Christchurch post-earthquake rebuild.

A report investigating the possibilities of a Mass Rapid Transit system for a booming Greater Christchurch area has found it could be done but would need to be supported by more intensive population growth near stations along the route.

A mass rapid transit (MRT) system was not pursued in Christchurch post-earthquake rebuild but in the run-up to the 2020 election, Jacinda Ardern's Labour Party campaigned to develop a rapid transport network for New Zealand's second biggest city.
