Hitachi Rail is incorporating Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) with 5G communications in flagship projects, including New York's Crosstown Line and Hong Kong International Airport.
The use of 5G for train-to-ground communications marks an industry first, offering substantial performance enhancements while lowering investment and lifecycle costs.
Hitachi Rail will highlight the innovation of integrating 5G capabilities with SelTrac™ technology at the global rail conference, InnoTrans 2024, in Berlin.

The Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Rail Upgrade project has achieved a significant milestone as the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has awarded the contract for delivering the major rail works package for Stage 1. This package encompasses the duplication of the rail line between Beerburrum and Beerwah, the straightening of the rail line between Beerburrum and Glass House Mountains, an enhanced park-and-ride facility at Beerburrum, new or improved road overpasses, and upgraded train signaling systems. This contract award enables the Joint Venture, along with its designers SMEC Australia and WSP Australia, to proceed with finalizing the designs and commence construction of the major works package.
