Tibet's new bullet train that travels so high that they provide extra oxygen to passengers

90% of the route is above 3,000 meters above sea level, so the wagons have oxygenation equipment

EIJING.- The Chinese state railway company has just inaugurated a line of high-speed trains in Tibet, nicknamed the “roof of the world”, whose route of 435 kilometers runs 90% above 3,000 meters above sea level. from the sea , so it was necessary to equip the wagons with an automated system to keep the oxygen supply stable, normally scarce at this point.

The line launched last Friday connects the Tibetan capital Lhasa with the city of Nyingchi, giving mainland China's 31 provincial-level regions access to high-speed rail travel.

The Lhasa-Nyingchi line has 47 tunnels and 121 bridges, representing approximately 75% of the entire route. This includes the 525-meter-long Zangmu Railway Bridge, the largest and tallest arch bridge of its kind in the world.

The state-owned China State Railway Group invested the equivalent of $ 5.6 billion to build the line. The automated air supply system keeps oxygen levels at a constant 23.6% , slightly higher than the 21% average found in normal atmospheres.
