With the selection of the Clark Construction/Stacy and Witbeck Joint Venture as the first of three major construction contractors for this phase of construction to deliver the programme,
Amtrak has reached a critical milestone in the Frederick Douglass Tunnel Programme.
The award comes after a year-long open competitive procurement for the Southern Approach construction package that started in June 2022.
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) of the federal government, Amtrak, and the State of Maryland are all contributing to the estimated $6 billion total investment for the Frederick Douglass Tunnel.
