Trains on the new network will be 90% more carbon-efficient than flying.
For the first time, high-speed train design, production, and operation have received rigorous PAS 2080 global approval.
The HS2 rail network's high-speed trains have been identified as the most environmentally friendly in the world and are scheduled to begin service within 10 years.
It is the first train in the world to receive the British Standards Institute's PAS 2080 global approval. The new design is based on the popular Frecciarossa extremely high speed train, which is now running in Italy and Spain.
The weight of the train's carbody, wheelsets, and cabling will be reduced by work done during the detailed design phase, and more of the train will be constructed using repurposed and recyclable materials.
