Hitachi Rail is credited as being the first company in the world to track an ethical train's life cycle

Social certification assesses the effects of a train on everything from end-of-life care and recycling to manufacturing and the supply chain.

With the use of a Social Product Declaration (SPD), Hitachi Rail is the first manufacturer globally to be able to monitor both the social and environmental effects of its products.

The rail company has successfully finished creating a revolutionary Social Product Declaration that traces the ethical life cycle of its Masaccio hybrid trains.

Hitachi Rail and EDP International have developed a groundbreaking system that documents all the work performed by suppliers throughout the entire value chain. 
Additionally, the system evaluates the suppliers' social performance and adherence to contemporary, ethical working practices, such as gender equality, fair salaries, employee safety, labour laws, and the rule of law.
