Innotrans now has a Thales Rolling Laboratory Lucy dedicated to Autonomous Rail Technologies

19 September 2022 (Berlin, Germany)
To demonstrate Thales' innovative autonomous technologies, Lucy, the mobile laboratory from Thales, made its first trip to InnoTrans.
People are required to take a photo of the Lucy Train and post it on social media as part of the #SpotLucy challenge.
From Neustadt, the journey began on September 2, and it ended at InnoTrans in Berlin.
The 1994-built Lucy is Thales' mobile testing facility for all on-board railway systems.
Additionally, Lucy is outfitted with a wide range of autonomous technology.
Lucy is able to autonomously establish its precise location and speed thanks to its Train Control Management System (TCMS), Driver Assistant System,
remote video control using GSM-R / 4G / 5G cellular equipment, and position and location sensors.
These technologies will also give it the ability to detect, identify, and react to items in front of the train in the future.
Autonomy provides higher punctuality along with energy savings and performance improvements.
Compared to vehicles and trucks, rail uses 12 times less energy and generates up to 11 times less CO2 per passenger/kilometer.

Trains now possess new superpowers thanks to autonomous technology.
What if your train had independent vision and thought?
It has a science-fiction sound.
Trains with autonomous capabilities are now a reality thanks to Thales.
The Thales RailBotTM autonomous technology enables a train to comprehend its environment,
make decisions, and follow its goal without requiring human involvement.
Although we are not there yet, several of the components for autonomous operation have already been implemented or are almost ready.
