Italy's centre and northern regions will receive digital signalling from Hitachi Rail under a framework agreement worth €867 million

As the head of a group of firms, Hitachi Rail has been given a Framework Agreement worth €867 million to design and implement the European Rail Transport Management System (ERTMS) digital signalling on 1,885 km of the Italian rail network.
The new contract includes the regions of Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Piedmont, Lombardy, Liguria, Veneto, and Friuli-Venezia-Giulia in central and northern Italy.
The contract was given by Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) and comes after the company gave Hitachi Rail a €500 million framework agreement for the design and installation of ERTMS digital signalling on 700 km of rail lines throughout Italy in November 2021.
