South Gloucestershire Council has granted planning permission for a new North Filton Station.
The station will connect rail services to the new development, named Brabazon, as well as visitors to the new arena.
Up to 6,000 new homes are planned to be built in the next 20 years as part of the development.
Regular trains from the new North Filton station will connect to the Henbury Link, from Henbury to Temple Meads via Filton and the new Ashley Down station.
The council received revised plans for the new station just before Christmas from Network Rail and fast-tracked its final assessment of the proposals to enable a decision to be made promptly, so that work on the station could begin as soon as possible.
South Gloucestershire council cabinet member with responsibility for planning and strategic infrastructure, Steve Reade, said: "North Filton Station will support not only the growing resident population, but also attract visitors from across the region and beyond to this part of South Gloucestershire.
"Having regular and reliable public transport links will be vital to make this area an attractive place to live, work and visit."
The council said it hopes the station will be completed by 2026.

November 30, 2023 (US) Amtrak resumed service on all routes in Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23), continuing the company's robust expansion. Major infrastructure projects that will enable ambitions to double ridership by 2040 were also progressed. Over 28 million passengers used Amtrak in FY23, largely due to the Northeast Corridor (NEC), where ridership is soaring and has been steadily surpassing pre-pandemic levels since early summer. By pursuing historic infrastructure investments that will introduce new and expanded services, boost safety and dependability, improve accessibility, spur economic development, and improve the customer experience, Amtrak is taking advantage of this good momentum. Read MoreServices between Woking and Basingstoke will be drastically reduced next week due to emergency landslip repair work
1 December 2023 (UK) Due to an urgent need for repairs, Network Rail and South Western Railway (SWR) are advising customers who intend to travel on the line between Woking and Basingstoke to do so only if absolutely necessary. Movement was observed in a 100-meter-long slope adjacent to the St. John's Hill Road overbridge, which connects Brookwood and Woking in Surrey. These tiny sensors are part of a system known as remote condition monitoring. The geotechnical and structural experts at Network Rail have found fissures that are up to 45 metres long, 50 centimetres broad and one metre deep in certain areas.
