SMRT has officially become the first international rail operator to join the Taiwan Metro Alliance

SMRT Corporation (SMRT) today officially joined the Metro Alliance alongside five Taiwanese rail operators: New Taipei Metro Corporation, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, Taoyuan Metro Corporation, Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, and Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation.
SMRT is the first international rail operator outside of Taiwan to join the alliance.
The goal is to strengthen the talent pipeline for the rail industry through initiatives like exchange programs, sharing technical expertise to improve operations and maintenance, coordinating joint procurement and spare parts development to reduce costs, and exploring commercial opportunities in advertising, marketing, and transit retail.

This package encompasses the duplication of the rail line between Beerburrum and Beerwah, the straightening of the rail line between Beerburrum and Glass House Mountains, an enhanced park-and-ride facility at Beerburrum, new or improved road overpasses, and upgraded train signaling systems. This contract award enables the Joint Venture, along with its designers SMEC Australia and WSP Australia, to proceed with finalizing the designs and commence construction of the major works package.
