The South Commuter Railway (SCR) will not only lessen the travel time for workers but also increase access to jobs, a report released by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said.

In a blog released on Tuesday, the ADB said that workers in cities and municipalities with SCR stations will gain access to more than 300,000 jobs on average, an increase of 15.3 percent in the south and 8.5 percent in Metro Manila.

ADB Young Professional South Asia Department Liming Chen, Economics Officer, Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department Eugenia Co Go, and Principal Economist, Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Yi Jiang said that "residents of at least 48 cities and municipalities stand to benefit from a faster and more reliable mass transit system once the railway becomes operational."

"On average, households will have access to 300,000 more jobs within an hour's commute," the authors said.
