Stadler and SBB Cargo have signed a framework agreement for the supply of 129 Bo’Bo’ multisystem locomotives

The Swiss freight operator has awarded Stadler the contract from a tender initiated in early 2024 for the supply of 36 electric multisystem locomotives (25 kVAC/15 kVAC/3 kV DC).
SBB Cargo is set to replace its aging Re420 locomotives and has chosen Stadler as a trusted partner to supply the next generation of Bo’Bo’ electric multisystem locomotives.
The new Bo’Bo’ locomotives represent the next step in the evolution of the successful EUROLIGHT, EURODUAL, and EURO9000 families, designed for both freight and passenger services on European railways.

This package encompasses the duplication of the rail line between Beerburrum and Beerwah, the straightening of the rail line between Beerburrum and Glass House Mountains, an enhanced park-and-ride facility at Beerburrum, new or improved road overpasses, and upgraded train signaling systems. This contract award enables the Joint Venture, along with its designers SMEC Australia and WSP Australia, to proceed with finalizing the designs and commence construction of the major works package.
