Thanet Parkway, Kent's first brand-new railway station in eight years, was formally inaugurated today, Friday, 8 September, by Rail Minister Huw Merriman.
Along with other invited guests and senior officials from Network Rail, Southeastern, Kent County Council, Thanet District Council, and the South East Local Enterprise Partnership, the minister attended the festive opening event.
The @ Thanet Big Sing Community Choir provided music for the event, while Chapel House Estate, a wedding and events location close to Minster, provided food.
On the day of an art contest held in two neighbouring schools, Minster CofE Primary and Chilton Primary, the winners were also announced. Each of the six winning students received a family High Speed travel pass from Southeastern.
To formally honour the opening, the minister presented a commemorative plaque and took a tour of the station.
