This autumn, rail tracks are being kept free by drones and leaf-busting trains

In order to maintain traffic on the West Coast, Chiltern and West Midlands main lines in autumn, a special fleet of 'leaf-busting' trains has begun blasting leaves off the track.
Six specialised trains began removing leaf litter from railway lines starting in mid-December.
While the trees are losing their leaves, they will treat the region's 100,946 miles of track.
There will be 20% more track treated than in 2022, which is roughly four times around the equator.
